WEED & VEGETATION MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Frenchman Butte No. 501 is seeking a Weed & Vegetation Management Coordinator to implement and oversee the municipality’s Vegetation & Weed Management Plan. This role is vital in maintaining municipal land use, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and preventing the spread of invasive and noxious weeds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the RM’s Vegetation & Weed Management Plan, ensuring compliance with municipal and provincial regulations.
  • Conduct surveillance and mapping of invasive and noxious weeds, prioritizing areas of concern.
  • Apply herbicides in accordance with SARM’s Schedule A Herbicide Options for Selected Noxious Weeds, adhering to environmental safety protocols.
  • Perform manual removal of invasive species where necessary, particularly near sensitive areas like water bodies.
  • Maintain accurate records of herbicide applications, weed infestations, and control measures in imapinvasives.org.
  • Liaise with external agencies such as Canadian National Railway, Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, and oil companies to manage weed control on shared lands.
  • Monitor and report the effectiveness of weed control programs to the Council of Frenchman Butte.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience in weed management, agriculture, or environmental science preferred.
  • Valid Pesticide Applicator License (or willingness to obtain before employment).
  • Knowledge of herbicide application techniques, environmental buffer zones, and integrated weed management strategies.
  • Ability to operate and maintain spraying equipment and other vegetation control machinery.
  • Strong organizational skills to document and report weed control activities.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle.
  • Knowledge of OH&S safe work procedures for herbicide handling is an asset.
